WWE Payback 2013 Betting Tips

The inaugural WWE Payback is headed our way from Chicago, Illinois and will feature the return of CM Punk. Punk has been missing in action since Wrestlemania so it will be good to see him back in his hometown. His return is a bit of a mystery as in how he will be portrayed, but the odds of him losing in his hometown are… pretty unlikely as he is a -7500 favorite.

While Punk’s return may be the most intersting thing on the show, the show is headlined by a three stages of hell match with John Cena and Ryback for the WWE title. Cena is, as expected, a huge favorite here. He will definitely hear it from the crowd in Chicago, but him losing doesn’t really seem possible at this point coming off his big win against The Rock at Wrestlemania and he should be a big favorite in his matches for the next several months.

As we’ve seen over the last couple of months, the bookmakers are being very careful with these lines and aren’t offering a lot of value. As always, this doesn’t mean that there isn’t stil value to be found.

WWE Payback Betting Tips & Analysis:

Let’s take a closer look at these tough lines and see if we can find some spots to make some money.

Sheamus (-11000) vs Damien Sandow (+3000): What an absolutely ridiculous line for a match with no consequence. At these odds it’s hard to justify placing a bet when it seems clear that the bookmakers know something.

Dean Ambrose (-7500) vs Kane (+2500): The story of the past few months has been the Shield slowly taking over WWE and this should just be a continuation of that. Kane has reached the point in his career where he doesn’t need to be winning matches and Dean Ambrose could be a future star. Skip it.

Curtis Axel (-6000) vs Wade Barrett (c) (+2000) vs The Miz (+2000): The power of Paul Heyman is strong here. Despite being in the ring with two former main event players, Curtis Axel is a big favorite. Again, hard not to picture the bookmakers knowing something here.

Alberto Del Rio (-260) vs. Dolph Ziggler (+180): Finally, something to work with. Del Rio lost his title to Dolph Ziggler’s Money in the Bank cash-in and then Dolph got hurt. Bad luck for Dolph, good luck for Del Rio. WWE doesn’t like injury risks holding their titles and I fully expect Del Rio to get it back here. Bet Del Rio.

Rollins and Reigns (-7500) vs. Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton (+2500): This will definitely be the match of the night, but it’s hard to imagine the Shield losing here. The Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan pairing seems like one that is doomed to fail. Could we see a turn? The odds of that make this one not worth your time.

CM Punk (-7500) vs. Chris Jericho (+2500): Man, they really don’t want us to make money on this show. Punk is definitely winning here.

AJ Lee (-7500)vs Kaitlyn (+2500): AJ is probably the most popular diva we have seen in years so her losing here wouldn’t make much sense. The bookmakers agree.

John Cena (-4500) vs. Ryback (+1500): Cena. Always Cena.

WWE Payback Betting Picks:

An absolutely brutal card to bet on here leaves us with just one pick. Really, if you want to make money on this event find a sportsbook that will let you parlay. Throw Cena, The Shield, Punk and Ambrose in there and you might get some value. A little bit. Still, we do have this one pick we feel pretty good about:

  1. Alberto Del Rio
