AJ Lee Royal Rumble Odds Following Shocking SmackDown Return

The bitter ongoing rivalry between World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and archenemy CM Punk has been ramped up to new levels in recent weeks. The two have feuded on and off since the second City Saint returned to WWE in November 2023, clashing in the main event of WrestleMania, as well as closing out the first-ever Monday Night Raw on Netflix. However, the latest additions to the story have seen the blood feud reach new heights.

Rollins/Punk Feud Goes Into Overdrive

At SummerSlam, it was Punk who was crowned the heavyweight king, defeating former champion Gunther after an epic at MetLife Stadium. Then, barely three minutes into his reign, Rollins emerged with his Money in the Bank briefcase, cashing in his guaranteed title shot to dethrone the newly minted champ and claim the Big Gold belt for himself.

At the recent Clash in Paris event, the champion defended the gold against the man he dethroned in the Big Apple, as well as both Jey Uso and LA Knight in a fatal four-way match.

It looked as though it would be Punk who emerged victorious, as he had the champion on his shoulders to hit a second straight Go To Sleep. Then, Becky Lynch – Rollins’ real-life wife and current women’s Intercontinental Champion – intervened, delivering a low blow and allowing her husband to viciously stomp his way to a successful title defense.

The following night, Lynch and Punk traded verbals in the ring, with ‘The Man’ repeatedly slapping her husband’s rival in the face. Days later, Chicago’s favorite son returned to his hometown and was once again greeted with slaps from the Irish star. This time around, however, the Voice of the Voiceless had backup.

AJ Lee Returns

CM Punk’s drama with WWE is well-publicized, but one person who was caught in the crossfire is his own wife, AJ Lee. The former Divas Champion left the company back in 2015 after dropping the championship to a debuting Paige on the Raw after WrestleMania, following her husband out the door. She hasn’t ever looked like returning since.

However, since Punk’s return, the door has been well and truly open for his wife to also make her way back to the wrestling ring, which she once starred in and truly loved. And with Seth Rollins seeking assistance from his wife, Becky Lynch, to continue clinging on to the World Heavyweight Championship, it was clear that Mrs. Punk needed to support her own husband. In Chicago, she did exactly that.

In front of a raucous crowd at the Allstate Arena, AJ returned to assist with the challenge of Rollins and Lynch. The Windy City erupted at the site of arguably the best women’s wrestler in the world in her prime ten years ago, delivering perhaps one of the loudest pops a female star has ever received. And after heading to the ring and beating down Lynch, online gambling sites think a huge victory could be just around the corner.

Could AJ Win the Women’s Royal Rumble?

The popular Bovada online gambling site will be offering betting on next January’s Royal Rumble, just as they did this January and again in April with WrestleMania. When they post their odds, they are expected to make AJ a 20/1 shot to win the Women’s rumble match, quite the entry considering she wasn’t even signed to WWE as the calendars turned into September. But can she actually do it?

Well, that remains to be seen based on how the ongoing situation with Rollins and Lynch develops. The Punk/Rollins rivalry is now without question the hottest part of WWE programming, especially following the additions of AJ and Lynch to the fold. Expect the four of them to continue feuding throughout the rest of the year, with a mixed tag team match between all four of them first up, before Punk challenges Rollins for the gold again, while Lynch and AJ will contest a singles match of their own.

Depending on the outcome of that saga, the newly returning superstar could well be primed and ready for Rumble glory… Although it has to be said that she isn’t considered an outright favorite right now.

Bianca Belair Leads the Way

Many consider three-time women’s champion Bianca Belair the pick to win the women’s rumble in January, continuing her stellar run over the last 12 months. The EST won the rumble match back in 2021, before going on to headline WrestleMania opposite Sasha Banks to claim the women’s title for the first time. However, despite being many people’s pick – with the bookies expected to price her around the 5/2 mark – she is by no means an overwhelming frontrunner.

Both Roxanne Perez and Stephanie Vaquer are also thought to be contenders, especially considering their respective stellar breakout years following their step up from NXT. Jade Cargill has also been pushed to the moon since signing from AEW two years ago. However, she still seems somewhat raw and is considered a “best of the rest” type pick. Following her return, AJ could well take that spot, and if she manages to come out of her feud with Lynch on top, expected the aforementioned 20/1 odds to shrink significantly ahead of the January showdown in Saudi Arabia.
