WWE Night of Champions Betting Odds: John Cena vs CM Punk

We are approaching the halfway point of John Cena’s 2025 retirement tour, and the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion could well be in for his biggest test yet as he prepares to lock horns with arguably his greatest-ever rival, CM Punk. After teaming up with YouTube sensation Logan Paul and losing to the team of Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso at the recent Money in the Bank, the Last Real Champion will certainly have his work cut out if he is to successfully retain his title against the Voice of the Voiceless.

On the June 9th version of Monday Night Raw, Cena headed to the ring in a bid to address his naysayers. He first took aim at the recently returning Ron Killings, formerly known as R-Truth, before turning his ire on the crowd and berating them as he has so often done in recent weeks. Then, Punk came to the ring and cut the champ down to size, challenging him to a match for the title. Cena duly accepted, saying that the match would go down at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.

So, have sports betting sites posted their odds for the blockbuster clash yet? And if so, who do they think will leave the Kingdom with the title? Let’s find out.

John Cena

With the match only being announced in recent days, betting sites haven’t yet priced up the marquee showdown. That leaves fans of online sports betting at Bovada and similar sites waiting in eager anticipation. However, when the odds are updated, we expect the bookies to make the reigning champion an odds-on favorite to get the victory, perhaps even being listed as short as -700.

That pricing may come as somewhat of a shock, especially as the upcoming clash feels like the first real title defense in which the Leader of the Cenation could well lose the gold. Since shockingly defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania in Las Vegas back in April to become a record 17-time World Champion, Cena has beaten both Randy Orton and R-Truth in title defenses; However, no one really thought that either of those title challengers had a real shot at leaving their respective clashes with the belt.

Punk, however, is a different matter entirely. The Second City Saint has had a new lease of life since returning to WWE almost two years ago, reigning supreme in blood feuds against both Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins. He is a cornerstone of Monday Night Raw every week, and he has the required star power to make him a believable victor in a championship clash. Still, it would be an almighty shock if Cena were to drop the title so soon into his reign.

The Boston native has made it clear that 2025 will be his final year as an in-ring competitor. Now he has the title, he is expected to hold it for most of the year, perhaps not even dropping the gold until his retirement match in December. As such, victory against Punk is expected before embarking on a continuation of the feuds opposite former champion Rhodes and the recently returning Ron Killings.

CM Punk

With Cena expected to emerge victorious, CM Punk will be an almighty outsider to leave the Arabian Gulf with the gold, perhaps even as long as +400 with some outlets. But there are a couple of reasons as to why the Chicago native may well upset the odds. One of those is that the current Undisputed WWE Champion has never beaten his nemesis in a championship match.

That bodes well for Punk and is indeed a good omen. Another is the aforementioned star power that he possesses. The Voice of the Voiceless will be a regular staple on WWE TV for the rest of the year, and as a former seven-time world champion – including two reigns in All Elite Wrestling – the 46-year-old certainly has enough experience to carry the weight of the gold.

Another reason why Punk could leave Saudi Arabia with the title, or at least with the victory, is that there is a ready-made feud waiting for him in the months that follow. Bitter rival Seth Rollins recently secured the Money in the Bank briefcase, guaranteeing him a championship match: any time, any place. If Punk somehow upsets the odds and beats Cena to claim the gold, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Rollins head to the ring with the briefcase in tow, cashing in his opportunity against a tired new champion to steal the title for himself.

Another way Punk could get the victory would be if the champion were counted out or disqualified. Since Cena turned heel back in February at Elimination Chamber, he has continuously used nefarious tactics, firstly to claim the championship and then to cling to it. If he were to do the same in Saudi Arabia but ultimately get caught in the act by the referee, Punk would be awarded the victory, albeit he wouldn’t leave the Kingdom with the title due to the champion’s advantage. Even though he wouldn’t leave Saudi with the gold, a bet on Punk to win at +400 would indeed cash regardless, providing a potential windfall for his backers.
